Usability Insight - Conference Overview - Conclusions
After a detailed review of Usability and to some extent Accessibility, there are a few important conclusions to note from what was presented at the Usability and Accessibility Days 2008 event.
An overall usability evaluation of websites and other information systems can prove beneficial to the end users. The same applies to usability methods being applied within all stages of the development cycle. It can be the key to the success of a website.
However my comment on usability is that usability characterises one of the initial stages of every project, the user requirements analysis, modelling and their translation into development tasks.
Therefore what is often the cause for producing an unsuccessful system is (in my humble opinion) badly interpreted user requirements specification methods. With a wealth of methodologies detailing the user requirements process of the analysis, there is always more ways to achieve the same goal.
For a business analyst there needs to be full understanding on what each different type of users accessing the system need in order to be more efficient and ease their experience of the website.
Of course Ergonomics comes into space after the proper definition of all things that the system needs to do in order to be a success from the end-user point of view.
One of the key aspects of website success (the google homepage for example) is simplicity and ease of use, without an overflow of information and hyperlinks.
